Biography

Dr. Ken Dooley is a Technology Director at Granlund & a Postdoctoral Researcher at Aalto University in Helsinki. He has over 15 years’ experience in the built environment & has worked in London, Sydney, Dublin & Helsinki. At Aalto his research focuses on smart city services, smart buildings and the sharing economy. He is also the host of the Citizen Centric Podcast which focuses on user centric smart cities.

Smart cities face a path of “big project” obstacles. Yet smart buildings offer a scalable foundation for creating the smart city. Buildings in cities serve different purposes (offices, apartments, hospitals, schools, residences etc). Across all uses, smart building infrastructure addresses the same needs as city infrastructure-- energy, water, trash, lighting, ventilation, connectivity, parking, security and emergency services.
