Migration in Cities: Can Technology Support Social and Economic Integration?INCLUSIVE & SHARING CITIES
Technology is changing the dynamics of migration. Displaced peoples--currently over 70 million around the world--increasingly use digital platforms and social media to learn about services and potential threats, i.e., the “appification” of migration. Cities and countries have incorporated data-driven methods to decide how and where to receive migrants. Blockchain is being tested to facilitate cash transfers among refugees. These are a few examples of how technology and data can help cities manage rapid flows and welcome recent arrivals. Our panel explores how to best to identify, deploy, and scale technology solutions to enable social and economic integration in cities.
